You’re about to find out that learning Yiddish can be fun and easy. It’s always cool to learn a new language – especially one like this.

Jewish Languages

Throughout the times, the Jewish people have spoken many different languages. Jews were exiled to different parts of the world, so they spoke differently. One language that the Jewish people have spoken over the last 1,000 years or so is Yiddish. That isn’t even considered an old language – it’s actually quite young!

Yiddish

Yiddish is a cool language. It contains parts of other languages such as Hebrew, Serbian, Russian, Latvian, German, and even English. That means if you know ANY of these, it shouldn’t be as hard to learn these new words! This should definitely be at the top of your list of languages to learn.

Cool Facts

Yiddish is a Jewish language that is spoken worldwide. People speak it in South America, Europe, and New York City!

Another cool fact is the amount of books that have been published in this 1,000 year old language. Close to 1,000,000 books! Considering that the Jewish people only make up less than 2% of the world population, that number is astonishing!

If those facts weren’t good enough, you’ll never guess which famous people spoke Yiddish! The three stooges, the Marx Brothers, the Warner Brothers, Jackie Mason, and Colin Powell ALL spoke it!

Pre-Holocaust

Before the Holocaust, there were more than 10,000,000 speakers. Over 85% of the Jews that were killed spoke it.

Now, the number of those speaking it are actually increasing. The revival of a seemingly dying language!

So, if you are interesting in learning a new language, this is the language for you! Or, if you weren’t interested before, doesn’t Yiddish seem like fun?
