Why is the Land of Israel Holy? First off, it is a beautiful land and God chose it. But, it is so much more than that. It is a rich land in history, a spiritual land for more than half of the world, a land that is filled with both faith and custom. But, perhaps the most riveting reason is the ultimate destiny of the Jewish people in the Land of Israel. When the Jewish people live the way that God has chosen for His people to live, then God’s Chosen People will evolve into a Light unto the Nations.
Resilience
The resilience of the Jewish people over the generations is testified by the existence of unique Jewish identities from tens of different countries around the world. Today, no entity symbolizes this more than the IDF (Israel Defense Forces). The typical unit contains Jews that trace back their family roots from literally every continent.
Less than a century ago, the Jewish people were the most downtrodden people on the globe. Jews in Arab Lands were 2nd class citizens at best. They were generally outcasts of the society. Jews living in Europe and Russia survived one calamity after another until the Final Solution of the 3rd Reich destroyed around 2/3 of Ashkenazic Jewry. The future of the Jewish people teetered at the end of World War II. It was unclear how the Jewish people would somehow rebuild and where.
But, within less than 3 years, the Jewish people miraculously formed into an Army and formed an internationally recognized Jewish State. On this miraculous yet weak beginning, the Jewish people built up and created a mini-superpower bringing light unto the whole world.
How? It’s God’s land.
