WhatsappMuch discussion has centered on overreach by government during the covid health crisis. Should people have more freedom to make their own choices during a pandemic like the covid pandemic? Or perhaps should health concerns oblige the government to take drastic actions in order to save lives, even at the expense of basic freedoms?
What seemed reasonable during the early months of the pandemic now seems like mistaken overreach on multiple levels. Certainly, the concern for the welfare of the infirm and elderly was and still is a major concern during a pandemic. But the decision to close down schools and force masking and vaccination on the masses in order to protect the elderly is now appearing to be less and less wise. Encouraging vaccination is one thing. Forcing vaccination is a completely different idea and probably should not have ever been done.
But what was the drive behind these drastic policies? Full Measure now is revealing that this was not merely all about governmental control. In China, governmental control may have been the primary drive. But across the West, there were other more powerful motives, namely, financial gain. We are not talking about hundreds of millions of dollars. We are talking about many billions of dollars.
How often is there a product that can literally be forced upon billions of people across the world in order to save their lives? This is truly a once in a hundred years phenomenon – hopefully. It is a chance that pharmaceutical companies trounced on. But they knew that their greatest obstacle would be convincing the masses that the vaccinations were safe, despite being new and relatively untested.
Many claim that there was a conspiracy of silence around the issue among doctors. But actually, many doctors did speak up and voiced their concerns about the health care policies. Hundreds of respectable doctors bound together to publish the controversial “Great Barrington Declaration,” which essentially said that the vaccine only – close the schools policy will probably end up having a more negative than positive impact on lives – especially on a long term level.
I believe that history will judge this minority of doctors favorably as being the more clear-headed doctors during the pandemic. But the main lessons to learn are to not trust any one small group of well-paid governmental employees to make drastic health decisions for the masses, and to never give up one’s freedom of speech. Silencing the opposition is not what America or the West is about. It is a Marxist anti-liberal idea that should be stamped out.
Moreover, whenever there are billions of dollars at stake, one should not trust the objectivity of those marketing their products, no matter how drastic the situation.
