A terror squad attempted to cross into Jerusalem by passing through the tunnel road checkpoint this morning. When they were stopped by the army they jumped out and started shooting.
The well organized attack killed one soldier and injured five other Israelis. The army neutralized all three terrorists.
The Shin Bet security agency later named the two as Hamas member Abdelqader Qawasmeh, 26, and 28-year-old Hassan Qafisha, who is affiliated with Hamas and whose father was the head of the terror group’s military arm in Hebron until he was killed in 2003. The thrid terrorist was later identified as Nasser Kawasmeh. Hamas’ military wing in Judea and Samaria claimed the attack on Thursday night.
After the terrorists were killed, the police found weapons inside the car. These included two M16 rifles, two pistols, about 10 loaded magazines, hundreds of additional bullets, and two axes. The police also found uniforms resembling those of the Israeli military.
This was a well coordinated attack and appears to confirm that Hamas is planning a series of attack across Judea and Samaria and even Jerusalem – bringing the war into the center of Israel. While today’s attack was a miracle in that the terrorists were stopped before getting into Jerusalem, it should be an ominous sign that more attacks are on their way.
