WhatsappOn October 7th, 2023, there were thousands of Israelis who found themselves under direct attack from bloodthirsty Arab attackers who were out to degrade, rape, massacre, and employ every form of evil against Jews that they were able to get their hands on. They succeeded against more than 1,200 Israelis. It’s hard to believe, but it could have been much worse. They could have killed thousands. But 200 policemen and soldiers fought valiantly and gave their lives in order to stop the Hamas rampage. In addition, there were civilians who also fought and gave up their lives battling. Some lived to talk about. This is the story of a 70 year old modern Maccabee.
Some people were more surprised by the attack than others. This man is clearly a man who lived a peaceful life right on the border of Gaza. He clearly had no problem dealing with Arabs throughout his life. But he was also a man who knew that at some point, he may have to take up arms in order to defend himself and his community. No longer a young man, being a veteran of the Yom Kippur War, he was wise enough to realize that things sometime can change suddenly. On October 7th, he didn’t flinch.
He did not simply rise to the occasion and defend his own home. He kept fighting and fighting till he had no ammunition. Then, he kept fighting when Army reinforcements provided him with more ammo. He probably saved tens of lives. Who knows how many people owe their lives to him? We must always learn to be vigilant and willing to fight like this brave soul.
