Who is the superpower and who is the regional power? The United States is the superpower and Israel is the regional power that is allied with Israel. But make no mistake about it. Without a strong Israel, the United States would find itself embroiled in a situation with a Middle East dominated by radical Islamists. That is what is gradually forming throughout many countries in Europe, and it is threatening to spread to the West of the Atlantic too.

However, the events of the recent few months in the northern area of Israel have been nothing less than a regional earthquake that will have major repercussions for the decades to come. Syria has been a critical part of the attempts to destroy the State of Israel on numerous occasions since the very founding of the State of Israel. It is now a fractured and weakened country without major offensive capabilities. Lebanon has been a country with a south that is dominated by Hizbullah terrorists with massive offensive missile capabilites.

All of Israel knew that at some point, the problem of the 150,000+ missiles in Lebanon would have to be confronted. But nobody thought that Israel would succeed in destroying 80% of this capability in a matter of a few weeks with limited casualties and limited damage to Israel’s infrastructure. While Israel took care of Hizbullah in Lebanon, they also took out the defensive capabilites of Iran. This led to a domino effect in Syria, where the Syrian dictator Assad had no ability to fend off the Sunnis who have been fighting against him for around a decade.

This method of standing up to terror groups and decapitating them will be studied for decades as Israel is now serving as the model nation for how to withstand attacks on it. Donald Trump is certainly not an isolationist, but he is not looking for the United States to intervene militarily in these matters. He is happy that the State of Israel is taking care of cleaning up the terror infrastructure across the Middle East while insuring that Iran will no longer serve as the leader of the umbrella terror threat across the Middle East.
