For the second time in two days sirens blasted across the center of the country sending millions to bomb shelters due to ballistic missiles sent by the Houthis in Yemen. While the missile was intercepted, Israelis are getting weary that the Houthi threat has yet to be taken care of.
Today’s missile attack is the latest in a series of attacks by the Houthis that have grown in intensity since Iran’s other proxies have all essentially been decimated. The IDF has already attacked Yemen’s ports after a previous attack was able to penetrate Israel’s air defense resulting in a ballistic missile hitting a school, which miraculously resulted in no deaths as no one was in the school.
There has been a growing disillusionment by the broader Israeli public over the increased attacks. Israeli leaders have vowed a strong response.
“I am here today to praise you for the successful interception of the advanced missile launched yesterday by the Houthi terror group in Yemen,” Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said on a visit to a Arrow missile defense system. “The State of Israel has the best aerial defense system in the world, and we know that we have whom to rely on. Millions rely on you, awakening to the sound of sirens, but knowing that there are those who will deal with the threat. We will not make peace with the fact that the Houthis continue firing towards the State of Israel. I have warned and said: Just like we took care of [Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar in Gaza, and [Hamas leader Ismail] Haniyeh in Tehran, and [Hezbollah leader Hassan] Nasrallah in Beirut – we will take care of the Houthi leaders in Sana’a and in every other place in Yemen.”
Not only have the Houthis have been attacking Israel since the early days of the war in Gaza, but they have practically shut down shipping in the Red Sea, spiking worldwide inflation due to the inability of the Biden administration to stop the attacks at the Bab Al-Mandab straight. While the international shipping issue will be taken care of by the Trump administration, Israel appears ready to increase its attacks now.
