The Druze of Sweida or Jabal Al Druze continue to say no to the new Islamist regime in Syria. Sheikh al-Hajri, the prominent spiritual leader of the Druze community in Syria said the following: “There is no agreement and no consensus with the new Syrian government. We will act for our interests as a congregation. We are in a “make or break” phase.
We will go in the appropriate direction from the point of view of the community.”
The Druze Military Council in Sweida, backed by the community’s spiritual leader, Hikmat Al-Hajri, is intensifying its tone against the Syrian regime and recently announced: “We completely accept the decision of Leader Hikmat Al-Hajri and reject any cooperation with the Damascus government, which is based on an extremist constitution. We reject any attack on our rights and any interference in the management of our affairs. Defending the Sweida district is our duty and we are prepared to defend ourselves.”
The Druze of Syria in both the Bashan area and further to the southeast in Sweida have clearly made up their minds to join with Israel. Two significant development happened today to reinforce that. The first was a visit of at least 100 Druze leaders from Hader, which is next to the Golan in a first time visit to Israel set to happen tomorrow. The second, is that Syrian reports indicate that Israel’s aid has reached Sweida.
Expect that over the next few months a real move towards a Syrian Druze autonomous Israeli protectorate will form and will vote to join Israel in a federation. This will be a seismic event and shake up the entire Middle East. The more Israel acts to aid the Druze in Syria, the stronger the Jewish State will be and the safer the Druze will be.
