The contrast between the two oldest Presidents in the history of the United States of America could not be greater. Joe Biden was one of the least active Presidents in the history of the Republic. He rarely attended any public events in the late afternoon or evening. Moreover, it has now become public that even his signature was not always his signature, but a digitized version of his signature. On the other hand, Donald Trump has clearly been preparing for years exactly what his first 100 days in office would look like, and it has been truly an historic story of action, whether one agrees or disagrees with what he is doing.

Donald Trump was probably surprised that he won in 2016, even if he claims that he expected to win. Without a doubt, the conventional wisdom among nearly everyone in the world was that Hillary Clinton would win that election. So, it stands to reason that Donald Trump did not have a plan in place for how to govern from Day 1 – just a broad idea of what he had in mind. Furthermore, he appointed many people that he did not have a long history of knowing. For a person with the personality of Donald Trump, inclined to changing his opinion very often, this led to enormous turnover in the White House and other departments.

But this time around, Donald Trump chose to appoint the people he trusted the most, even if they were considered less qualified for the job than others. It is too early to see how this will play out. Outside of Marco Rubio, President Trump basically appointed cronies to many top positions. This is not at all unprecedented. Many have done exactly that.

But what everybody, including CNN, has noted is that he has come out of the gate at a torrid pace. He is both turning back the clock on policies that he railed against during the election and also advancing new ideas that are surprising even many of his own advisors. His bold tariff policies are clearly designed to disrupt the world economic order so that he can then reassemble things in a fashion that he sees more equitable towards the United States. He is indeed accomplishing amazing things in his early stages of his Presidency. But it is way too early to make any judgements on any of his policies.
