Times Square is a well known location in New York City. And seeing famous Jewish singer Yaakov Shwekey sing there is amazing!

Times Square

Times Square is in Midtown. It is always a “happening” place. Lights, stores, music, characters, restaurants – you name it, it is probably there. It is a very public place! So, it is pretty cool that a famous Jewish singer, Yaakov Shwekey, sang there for Jewish teens.

CTeen

CTeen is the Chabad Teen Network. It is a “dynamic network for Jewish teens of all backgrounds that offers awesome meaningful programs which harnesses the incredible potential of teenagers bringing purpose, self-discovery and giving to their communities.”

The event at Times Square with Yaakov Shwekey was a CTeen event. You can feel the energy of all the teenagers by watching this video! Youth coming from all different Jewish backgrounds were dancing together and proud to be Jewish.

A Time for Everything

After singing “Am Yisrael Chai,” or “The Nation of Israel lives,” Shwekey sang a few of his songs. He ended off with the song Et Rikod. The lyrics and translation are below. Some of the words in this song are from Ecclesiastes, written by King Solomon. (Lyrics courtesy of zingalyrics)

Lakol Zman, Lakol Zman Va’et.
Lakol Zman, Lakol Zman Va’et.
Et Lehov, Et Lisno, Et Milchama
V’et, V’et Shalom.
Lakol Zman, Lakol Zman Va’et.
Lakol Zman, Lakol Zman Va’et.
Et Lehov, Et Lisno, Et Milchama
V’et, V’et Shalom.
Aval Halayla Halayla Hazeh,
Aval Halayla Hazeh.
Kulanu Besimcha La Lanu Halayla.
Et Rekod Et Rekod Et Rekod.
Kulanu Besimcha La Lanu Halayla.
Et Rekod Et Rekod Oid Va’oid.

There is a time for everything.
A time for love, a time for hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.

But tonight we are all happy.
It’s time to dance!
