Israel Going to Third Elections After Ex-Defense Minister Stops Formation of Government Messing up Historic Opportunity for Israel

Israel could have had a stable right-wing government with Bibi Netanyahu as Prime Minister months ago. Yet, Israel is going to elections for the third time in one year because of one party leader, Avigdor Lieberman.

Israel Hayom journalist Caroline Glick called it months ago, “Israel is Our Home” party head Avigdor Lieberman would not join a Netanyahu right-wing government. He has always been part of the right-wing camp, a natural ally to the Ultra-Orthodox parties for decades, yet today has turned them into his political enemies.

It is because of Lieberman that Israel went to second elections and now, again, Israel is going to third elections! Lieberman will neither join a left-wing government or a right-wing government. Lieberman was always part of the right-wing camp. PM Netanyahu could have made a government after the first elections and after the second elections if Liberman had joined his natural right-wing allies. Instead, he turned on his ideological and did not join. Rather, Lieberman wanted to become the Kingmaker, and only join a national unity government that was impossible to create. In actuality, he ended up refraining from making anyone King! Instead, Israelis will be going to the polls for the third time in one year!

Historic Opportunity

For the first time since the 1967 war, where Israel defended itself against the attacking Arab Muslim countries and won, liberating Judea and Samaria from the Jordanian occupation, Israel has the support of a world-power for its legal claims to our ancestral homeland. The Trump administration’s recognition that the Jewish presence in Judea & Samaria is legal according to international law was a watershed event. For the first time, we have a US administration that will not punish Israel for doing what Israel believes is right with regards to the application of sovereignty in areas of Judea & Samaria.

Even though Lieberman, who once was a key part of the right-wing block, could join a right-wing government that would then pass critical sovereignty laws to strengthen our hold on Judea & Samaria, he is holding out and bringing about the loss of this historic opportunity. For what reason? Nobody knows. The only reason that makes sense is that he is so dedicated to taking down PM Netanyahu, he is willing to go down this route with potential damage to the State of Israel.
