Hamas Deputy Saleh al-Arouri was killed today in a targeted airstrike on Beirut. He is the most senior leader to be killed by Israel thus far.

Saleh al-Arouri, was wanted for years by Israel. He was considered the de facto leader of Hamas in Judea and Samaria and has been behind at least numerous terror attacks himself and seen as the group’s prime orchestrator of West Bank terrorism. The explosion shook the Lebanese capital’s southern suburbs, which are a stronghold of Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas.

Six people in total were reported killed in the attack, which was a precision strike on a third-floor apartment said to serve as a Hamas office.

Hezbollah has vowed to take revenge.

IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari after the alleged assassination of Hamas official Saleh al-Arouri in Lebanon:

“The IDF is at a very high level of readiness, in all arenas, in defense and offense. We are in high state of readiness for any scenario.”

“The most important thing to say tonight is that we are focused and remain focused on fighting Hamas.”
