WhatsappThings are heating up on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant issued a direct warning to Hezbollah “not to make a mistake.”
“You have made mistakes in the past, you have paid very heavy prices. If… an escalation or conflict develops here, we will return Lebanon to the Stone Age. We will not hesitate to use all our power, and erode every inch of Hezbollah and Lebanon if we have to,” said Gallant after touring the area with senior Israel Defense Force officers.
The Defense Minister held an assessment with officers in the Mount Dov area of the border. While Lebanon claims that this is a part of their territory, international assessment is that it belongs to Israel. The border is porous on Mount Dov as it lacks a proper security fence due to the terrain. Because of this, Hezbollah paramilitary forces have often infiltrated into Israel for reconnaissance missions.
There are currently a number of tents erected by Hezbollah on the Israel side of the border. These tents are seen as provocations by Israel. However, the Israeli government has done nothing about them due to the fear of starting a war with the Iranian proxy to its North prematurely.
