It takes guts to stand up at the UN and declare that in the near future, students will study about the fall of the UN, about the moral bankruptcy of the UN. But Ambassador Gilad Erdan is exactly right. There is no better description of the UN than as a morally bankrupt institution. Only the UN could actually claim to be the defender of human rights while actively funding and taking part in terror activities against the State of Israel.
The wholesale tossing of any kind of impartiality by the UN in reference to the battle against the State of Israel is a moral stain on the UN that will only be wiped out when the UN undergoes a complete reformation. The UN needs to be stripped of it’s moral power as a powerful international body until it undergoes a complete restructuring of how it operates.
One day, the UN should be a place that attracts people who’s reputations are well-deserved for being beacons of morality. They should be people who spent decades outside of the political realm, yet who’s actions impacted on the lives of millions. They should be people who are scientists, writers, philosophers or true human rights activists who’s actions are known for transcending political differences. An example is somebody like Elie Weisel.
But until the change happens, the UN should be accused of exactly what Ambassador Erdan is accusing the UN of being.
