This song called ‘Shed A Little Light’ by James Taylor. Sounds so good it’ll be stuck in your head for days to come. The song mentions how Martin Luther King Junior shed a little light on the world. Even more so he helped end racism in America.

Martin Luther King Jr

Martin Luther King Junior was a civil rights activist. He helped combat racial inequality during the 1950s and 1960s in America. When segregation between the whites and the blacks was at its peak. Furthermore, in 1963 he helped organize a March in Washington DC. Where he gave his famous “I have a dream” speech. Consequently, he helped change history.

This speech was given on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. King wanted to call for the same civil and economic rights for all citizens. As a result, he wanted to end racism in the USA. If this speech did not happen, imagine where we would be today? He helped ‘shed a little light’ on the world. Most noteworthy he helped shape the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

James Taylor

James Taylor is an American songwriter and one of the best selling music artists. He has sold over 100 million records worldwide! Wow!

Shed a Little Light, which was a great hit, was written in 1991. It shows that there are differences between us. But no human is the same. We are bound together, we are all living on earth. We share desires, we share troubles. But at the end of the day, we are brothers and sisters. Like brothers and sisters are one, one family, Martin Luther King Junior wanted the same. Above all, he wanted to end segregation and show how we can become one family.

Lyrics

There is a feeling like the clenching of the fist
There is a hunger in the center of the chest
There is a passage through the darkness and the mist
Though the body sleeps the heart will never rest

Shed a little light oh lord
(So that we can see) Ohh now
(Just a little light oh lord) Just a little light oh lord
(Gonna stand it on up) Stand it on up
(Stand it up ohh Lord) Get down
(Gonna walk it on down) Gonna shed a little

(Shed a little light oh lord)No
(When I open my eyes, I want to drink my fill)
(From the well on the hill)
Then you know where I’ll be shed a little light oh lord
(So that we can see) Ahh yes
(Just a little light oh lord) Just a little light oh lord
(We’re gonna stand it on up) Stand it on up
(Stand it up ohh Lord, Stand it up ohh lord)
(Gonna walk it on down) Gonna shed a little
(Shed a little light ohh lord)There is a feeling like the clenching of the fist
There is a hunger in the center of the chest
There is a passage through the darkness and the mist
Though the body sleeps the heart will never rest

Chorus

Oh let us turn our thoughts today to Martin Luther King
And recognize that there are ties between us
All men and women, living on the earth
Ties of hope and love, sister and brotherhood
That we are bound together
With a desire to see the world become
A place in which our children can grow free and strong
We are bound together by the task that stands before us
And the road that lies ahead, we are bound then we are bound
