Today US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the US intention to implement “the strongest sanctions in history” on Iran. Pompeo did not only demand a full stop to Iran’s nuclear plans.  He also called for a full withdrawal of forces from Syria, as well as a total end to supporting terror.

Finally Leadership

Finally the world has a leader, President Trump, with a leadership team serious about stopping the evils of the Iranian regime.

Obama’s Iran nuclear deal only temporarily halted Iran’s nuclear plans.  But it allowed the Iranians to maintain all their capabilities for a nuclear break-out when the deal ended. It also did not stop Iran’s long range ballistic missile program, or make a dent in the global network of terror that Iran supports.  Iran supports the Hizbullah, Hamas and others across the Middle East.

Secretary of State Pompeo made clear that the intention of this US administration is to stop Iran from all the bad it is doing.  They do not want to just temporarily halt its nuclear program.

Text

Pompeo was clear in demanding the end of Iran’s “support to Hezbollah, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad”; and that “Iran must end its threatening behavior against neighbors, including threats to destroy Israel and attacks on Saudi Arabia.”

“America’s commitment to the strategy President Trump put down last year remains.  And it will now be executed outside of the JCPOA. We will insure Iran has no path to a nuclear weapon, not now, not ever,” Pompeo added. “We will apply unprecedented financial pressure on the Iranian regime. New sanctions are coming.”

New Relations

Pompeo said that the U.S. is prepared to re-establish relations with the regime and “happily” support it when they see “tangible and sustained shifts” in Iranian policy.

“We hoped that Iran would use the money from the nuclear agreement for the benefit of the citizens of Iran, but it has instead armed terror organizations. Since the agreement was signed, Hezbollah has been armed by Iran, with Israel as the target,” said the Secretary of State.

Pompeo warned that the new sanctions on Iran will be the “strongest sanctions in history.”

Serious Financial Pressure

“We will apply unprecedented financial pressure on the Iranian regime. The leaders in Tehran will have no doubt about our seriousness. Thanks to our colleagues at the Department of Treasury, sanctions are going back into effect and new ones are coming,” he said.

“Iran will be forced to make a choice.  Either fight to keep its economy off life support at home or keep squandering precious wealth in fights abroad. It will not have the resources to do both.”

Responses

Iran was defiant in its response to Pompeo’s speech. Iranian President Hassan Rohani said Tehran does not accept the United States deciding for it

Israel is very happy with the new US direction to put an end to all of Iran’s aggression. Israeli Minister Naftali Bennett said that “the bottom line of Pompeo’s speech and the new policy toward Iran is that it can either invest in improving the lives of Iranians or invest in taking the lives of other people. It cannot do both,” Bennett said.

This speech is the beginning of a new and necessary direction to protect the freedom loving world, as well as the Middle East, from Iranian aggression.
