The tunnels that the Hamas movement in Gaza built cost hundreds of millions of dollars to build. The gas, cement, salaries, and supplies to keep the tunnels from caving in are all expensive. Even the low salaries add up when you have tens of thousands of Arab builders on the monthly payroll. Much of the money for this grandiose terror project came from Iran. Tens of millions poured in on a constant level from the European Union too. But the most important silent partner was Qatar.
The oil-rich country bears enormous responsibility for bankrolling the terror infrastructure in Gaza that was built up to destroy Israel. It’s payback time. No missiles and weapons are needed to respond to Qatar. They simply need to be economically forced by the United States to take in tens of thousands of Arabs every week for a few months in order to begin the wholesale change of Gaza from terror-State to Mediterranean Riviera. As President Trump has said more than once, “There’s nice weather there.”
One simple threat from the United States will do the job. If America threatens to pull out a massive base out of Qatar and place it elsewhere in the Middle East, Qatar will budge. The United States does not need to give Qatar one cent or use any troops. But it should be one of many countries financing the immigration of the Gazan Arabs to Qatar.
Qatar can handle the financial burden of taking in a few hundred thousand Arabs. Jordan and Egypt can each take in a few hundred thousand. And yes, all of a sudden, the world will discover that there are far less than 2 million Arabs in Gaza, but closer to 1 million Arabs. Once the population is down to 100-200,000 Arabs, it will be a completely different story. Most will find a way on their own to move out. 90% of the issue will have been solved.
The border between Gaza and Egypt must be monitored by Israel and Egypt. But if new Arab communities are set up in Sinai, many Arabs from Gaza will be drawn to move there too. Al-Sisi should be pressured to accept this too. But Qatar should be the first country that successfully takes in tens of thousands of Arabs from Gaza. That precedent will then be followed by other less prosperous countries.
That is the proper answer to Qatar for bankrolling the growth of the tunnel terror network against Israel.
