WhatsappIt has been reported that the real reason Sinwar keeps turning down the hostage deals is he simply does not want to be assassinated by Israel the moment he resurfaces.
While one can understand the desire for self preservation, the hypocrisy is glaring. This is a man who has essentially sacrificed tens of thousands of his own people and yet when it comes to his own martyrdom he can’t simply do what he has asked his Gazan “brethren” to do.
Sinwar is literally cut off and running out of food and weapons as the IDF closes in on him and instead of simply just ending the war, he rather keep it going instead of sharing the same fate as former leader Ismail Haniyeh. Sinwar started this by attacking Israel with his Nukba commandos - massacring more than 1,000 Israelis in one day. His raped, tortured, and kidnapped men, women, and children. Yet, despite his bloodthirsty need to kill Jews in the most sadistic fashion he himself wants to simply live.
Isn’t that what we all want?
Sinwar understands that no Israeli leader will promise to simply let him go. He is a dead man - now or in the near future. This is why there is no deal, because at the end of the day for Sinwar it is all about his own survival and he knows he can last a bit longer deep in the bowels of the tunnels of Gaza instead of after a ceasefire with Israel.
So what will it take to take him down? Either the IDF reaches his bunker or one of Sinwar’s own guys realize just how absurd the situation is and takes him out and perhaps does the right thing and releases the tens of women hostages that now surround him.
One thing is clear – for Sinwar time is not on his side.
