Everything stops. It’s a moment that you must experience if you never have before. It’s almost against human nature to stop our busy lives and pause. For just 2 minutes. It’s hard for some people to stop what they are doing. But on Holocaust Remembrance Day, the country stops. Israel stops. It might just be for 2 minutes, but those 2 minutes are powerful. Some people pray. Some people close their eyes. And some think about their great-grandparents who perished in the Holocaust at the hands of the vicious Nazis. But as a whole, we are all doing the same thing. We are pausing. We come to a standstill.
It’s as if the Jewish people from the past, present, and future are all connecting in one moment. Differences don’t matter when you’re stopping to remember. Every Jew is part of the same nation. We all have a shared history. And as a people, we are destined for the same future. We will never forget. Our people depend upon memory and history. It’s part of who we are.
