What nobody told you about “The Chosen People”

What is the nature of the concept of “The Chosen People?”  Did God decide to choose the Jewish people because of some special traits they have?

If they don’t have anything special about them, then why did God choose them?

The idea comes from the Bible itself.  God declares to the Jewish people that if they keep his commandments, then they will be a special nation unto Him.  This – it seems – is the main source for the idea of a “Chosen People.”

However, Rudy Rochman does make a valid point when he says that we are not “special” unless we help others and do more for others.  He is an eloquent spokesman.

God’s Plan

God’s plan goes back to the very beginning of Creation.  He created mankind in His image. And then, things got rather complicated over the generations.  Now that the world is much larger and there are billions of people in the world, the role of the Chosen People is more reasonable.

The idea is that we will be a model nation for others to mimic.  But in order for that to happen, the Jewish people need to live a full Jewish life.  That can only happen in the Land of Israel.  Today, nearly 50% of the Jewish people have returned in what many have termed the ingathering of the exiles.  However, the Jewish people need to do more than return physically.  They need to return spiritually to a lifestyle that befits the Chosen People.

This will take a little bit longer – but we’re on the right track.
