One of the questions about the upcoming IDF ground campaign to liberate Gaza from its Islamic Nazi occupiers is how the IDF soldiers will handle the vast underground tunnel system known as the “Gaza Metro.”
The tunnel network has nearly 500km of a spiderweb system of hidden paths and bobby trapped areas. Most consider this far harder than America’s attack on Mosul, Iraq.
To counter terrorist use of bases, the IDF has developed what they call a sponge bomb. This bomb is built to neutralize surprises in the tunnel system. Gary Ramah describes the sponge bombs in the following way:
“The “sponge bombs” are a unique and innovative weapon developed by the IDF. What sets them apart is their unconventional nature – they contain no explosives. Instead, they are specifically designed to seal off tunnel gaps or entrances, preventing potential ambushes by militants emerging from these hidden pathways.“
“The mechanism of these devices involves the sudden release of a foam-like substance, which rapidly expands and hardens. While the IDF has remained tight-lipped about the specifics of these bombs, their strategic use has been observed during exercises held in 2021. The Tze’Elim army base near the Gaza border even features a mock tunnel system where these devices have been deployed during training.”
The IDF will be using an array of high tech weapons and equipment to navigate the tunnels. “To navigate this underground battlefield effectively, the IDF has organized specialized tunnel reconnaissance units. These units are equipped with an array of advanced technology, including ground and aerial sensors, ground-penetrating radar, and special drilling systems, to locate tunnels. Moreover, they have access to equipment that enables them to see in total darkness, as standard-issue night vision goggles rely on ambient light, which is often scarce underground.”
Even with all of this, the IDF will have their work cut out for them.
