Here, a soldier from the Yom Kippur War meets with the Doctor who helped saved his life, after 46 years! Being reunited after so many years can be a very emotional time for both sides.

Yom Kippur War

The Yom Kippur War took place in 1973 and was a surprise attack by Egypt and Syria on Israel. Whilst fighting took place in the Sinai desert in the south it also took place in the Golan Heights, in the north of Israel.

A most noteworthy story is about a man called Moshe Milo. In 1973 Milo was called up to fight in the Yom Kippur War. Milo was fighting on the southern front, by the Suez Canal where he was injured. He was then sent to Icholov Hospital in Tel Aviv.

Many of the wars in Israel mean calling up reservists to come and fight. Soldiers leave behind families and friends, they drop everything to come and help protect their country. It is quite amazing what they do. Imagine one day being told you need to come and fight and leave everything.

News travels fast and for that reason, even young men and woman from abroad have left homes behind to come and help fight with Israel. An example of this would be Dr. Patrick, due to hearing about the Yom Kipper war he left France and came on the next flight to help Israel in its efforts during the Yom Kipper war. He was helped in the Icholov Hospital, Tel Aviv. This is where he met Moshe Milo.

Reunited

As a result of today’s technology families and friends are able to find each other more easily. Here, a patient who wanted to thank his Doctor for saving his life was found by putting a picture on Facebook.

Many families after the Holocaust tried searching for each other. Not knowing what had happened to other family members As a result of DNA testing and the power of social media, like Facebook families have been reunited. Finally, it is amazing to think that after so many years, possibly losing hope of not seeing your brother or sister or cousin or friend again. Suddenly here they are, it is very emotional.
